I've been working at this wine store in Coquitlam, Westwood Plateau for about 8.5 months now.
In this time I've met people who drink $200 Champagnes to the $5 Yellowtail from way back when.
Course at the same time I've met the young new generation (Wow "young"? I really must be old at 22 now) and always wondered how many thing about wine now.
When I was growing up I always had the thought that wine was for the rich and the famous, the snobs, and the guys who are trying to show off to their lady friend.
However, now a days it seems wines have really flourished culturally as well as general quality, especially in Canada. Now a days you can find a decent red wine in Canada, a rose that doesn't taste like a bottle of sugar, and cabernet merlots which used to be scoffed at by the French years ago. What's more interesting is you're finding the younger crowds going for them too!
Now I'm not saying that the younger crowd is becoming more sophisticated. Sadly, we still love our sweet coolers and our cheap Smirnoffs (No offense m'dear) and whatnot. What I am trying to say is that the younger crowd is going for wine more and more often in these years instead of a sixpack of beer or other alchoholic drinks
I think that if this keeps growing it could bring about a big change in how people look at alchohol as the new generations beging to seep their way into the wine culture and heck at least red wine is better than drinking tequila or other hard liquors right?
